It is with immense sadness that the Norfolk RFU share the news of the passing of Bill Barclay.
Bill was a Past President of the Norfolk RFU, officiating between 2003 – 2004. As well as holding many other roles over the years, he was also an officer of Lowestoft & Yarmouth RFC and was a key influence in their move to Gunton Park. He was one of their original ‘Old Boys’ and played a major role in shaping his club, as well as the wider rugby community. He was recently able to celebrate his 90th birthday in May, joined by club members and his daughters Gill and Judith. Those outside of the rugby circle will remember him during his tenure at the Countryman pub in Tasburgh.
The Norfolk RFU offer our sincere condolences to Bills family as we mourn the loss of a true rugby gentleman as well as remembering his friendliness, warmth and humour, to anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him.
